What is an End Point Enterprise Architect?
And how can it benefit you and your company?
The primary role of an Enterprise Architect (EA) is to assist an organization with visualizing the target state. An EA takes a company's business strategy and defines an IT systems architecture to support that strategy. Enterprise Architects must understand a company's business and be able to dive deep into their technology issues. Architects help companies execute the alignment of the company's business goals and the IT infrastructure that supports the business and helps achieve those goals. An EA collects the many opinions, ideas and thoughts of an organization and drives the team towards agreement on a common vision. He/she then researches and drives discussion around the possibilities and ultimately documents the ideas so everyone can visualize a common target state. Much like a traditional Architect creates the blueprints for a building after consulting with the plumber, electrician, and other contractors; an EA must put the vision onto paper. Possible end results may include a documented vision, roadmap to achieve that vision, and framework of interconnections which enables the client make decisions along the way.
An Enterprise Architect focused on Endpoint Strategy creates thought leadership around the technology in the hands of the associate;the end user experience, if you will. An associate's opinion of the competence of their IT department is heavily dependent on two factors; 1) the technology they are given to perform their job and 2) the service they receive when they call the service desk. Enterprise Integration is well known for "Raving Fan" service. The intent of creating an Endpoint Strategy is to create a technology vision for endpoints which supports and enhances this model over time.

The challenges with endpoints revolve specifically around security, remote access, time to accomplish tasks, ease of management and reliability. Some of the technologies forcing organizations to have an endpoint strategy include tablets, cloud, virtual desktop infrastructure (VDI), thin clients, desktop virtualization, smartphones, data analytics and security. Many of these technologies have complimentary use cases, while some conflict with each other. For example, VDI using a tablet can be difficult as the applications may not be touch screen friendly or may rely on the right mouse button. In addition, the small screens, low power processors and limited storage space on smartphones means they require back end processing in the cloud or data center to enable data analytics. As more and more unstructured data is collected, the need for real time data increases, and the footprint of mobile devices changes, a well thought out strategy is key to ensure best use of available funds and maximize the chance to exceed management's and end users' expectations.
Enterprise Integration architects have thought through many use cases and worked with clients to define and understand end user experience requirements. This has enabled the selection of the proper technology solutions at clients such as Jacksonville Housing Authority, Rayonier and CSX. If you and your management team are discussing these issues and would like some assistance contact your Client Engagement Director today!
HIPAA goes HITECH
Event Recap

We discussed the financial, legal and technological aspects of HIPAA and HITECH regulations. This open forum included panellists from each of the respective organizations who answered questions generated by the audience to help identify areas of interest from the attendees. With over 40 attendees and 4 panellists the event had great flow and conversation! The different areas of discussion included security and privacy issues, penalties, risks and breach impacts on businesses.
